The rain of blessing / Rinko Kawauchi (Gallery 916)

I like photos that have "blank space."

What I mean by blank space is not that physical white blank space, but something that let viewers think. Why did that photographer point his/her camera at a certain subject? Why did he/she think it beautiful? While looking at the photo, viewers and the photographer can enjoy a conversation through the photos.

This Saturday, I went to Gallery 916 in Kaigan, Minato-ku, Tokyo, and enjoyed the latest photo exhibition of one of my favorite photographer, Rinko Kawauchi. Her photos were hanging on the white walls of the vast space. The gallery was on the 6th floor of a warehouse in the bay area.

The show exhibits Kawauchi's early works to the latest. The views of Kumamoto prefecture that Kawauchi captured were so atmospheric. The blue light of water and ice was beyond description.

What I really liked most was the huge photo of a flock of birds (it was about 1.5 meters wide or much wider). I returned to the photo countless times before I finally left the gallery. It was so overwhelming.

And the price of that photo? 1.2 million yen! I wish I could live in a house that can accommodate such a huge photo. My friend advised me that I live in a warehouse ...

Yes, that may be a good idea.
