My Interview Article on Ginza no Sukima project /

One of my project, Ginza no Skima, which means the Alleys in Ginza, was published on the Phoblographer, one of the popular photography websites. It's the first time I talked about this project officially. I'm happy about the article.

20mm f/1.4で散歩してみた / Took a Walk with a 20mm f/1.4 lens

A new lens, SIGMA's 20mm f/1.4 was delivered to me last week, so I went out for a walk with the lens this weekend.

I had something to do near Ginza, so I started the walk from the town, heading for Hibiya Park. Then I stopped by at Toranomon Hills to meet Toranomon (not Doraemon), then found a streets lined with cherry trees in full bloom in Akasaka.

It was a chilly cloudy day but finding something new was always fun, especially when I had a new lens in my hands.

As a starter, I went to into some of the alleys in Ginza.

After the alleys, I walked north.

The building in the center is part of an elementary school building. It was built after the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1920's. It's so tough that it survived the bombing in WW2.
The fence around one of the entrances of Tokyo Metro. I love this retro design.
The floor of a theater near the Imperial Palace.
I entered Hibiya Park and saw this huge plant. Something seemed to be wrong.
開放f/1.4のテスト。
I climbed a 3-or-4-meter-high mountain in the park. This tree trunk was on top of it. I tested f/1.4 aperture of the lens.

I saw myself behind the cloud in an art installation at the Iino Building.
The moment I was entering Toramonon Hills to meet Toranomon.
I found him ...
And took a closer look.
I walked through the building and entered the back yard of the premises. I feel uncomfortable when I see this kind of asymmetry.
I was able to express that discomfort through an art installation in the yard.
I found the second mountain of the day. Yes, it's an art installation called "Mountain." I walked along the trail (the white line) to conquer it.
I saw a "Police Dog" plate on the entrance of a building. I felt a bit scary. What if the dog were a chihuahua?
Edomi Slope used to overlook the city of Edo in the ancient time. Actually this slope was far harder than the two mountains I climbed that day.
It was an area full of temples.
A cherry tree looked impressive in one of the temples.

I found some cherry trees in the distance later, and approached them. The cherry trees were in the premises of ARK Hills in Akasaka. Before showing the cherry blossoms, I share some photos of other flowers I saw there.

Oops. This was not a flower.

Finally, here are the images of the cherry blossoms. There were a lot of people but not so bad as the most popular cherry blossom viewing places in Tokyo.

The pale pink of the cherry blossoms looked niceer under the cloudy sky (When sunny, they look white). I satisfied with the view, and went home. Thanks for joining the walk with me!

24mmで撮る銀座の隙間 / Capturing the Alleys i Ginza with a 24mm Lens

The last time I visited the alleys in Ginza area was last fall. I went there with the then-newly-bought AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR.

Last weekend, I had something to do near Ginza, so I visited the alleys, walking from Ginza 1-Chome to 7-Chome. And this time, I walked with a different lens. The lens I chose for the day was the SIGMA 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM, one of my favorite wide-angle lenses.

This lens doesn't have the anti-shake function like the 24-70 does. So I had to be very careful in the camera settings in the dark alleys. But once I set the camera settings right, everything looked beautiful through the lens. The edges of the buildings looked amazingly sharp. The light and shadow on the walls looked so real.

I posted such photos of the alleys on my portfolio website, Tokyo Photo Inspirations. If you have time, please visit the site and enjoyed the walk in the narrow alleys in Ginza. On this blog, I'll show you the other photos.

Now, let's go for a walk together.

The facade of this building looked interesting. I thought it would be nice if the material was so soft as a trampoline.

It was the moment I got out of an alley. The white wall and the blue letters were cute.

The weather was OK. I like the blue hue on the wall. I was in a bit wider alley.

A promotion display for the new movie, right?

One of my favorite buildings in Ginza. I want to skateboard on its wall.

The heaven of the air-conditioner outdoor units. I want to see more of them!

There used to be an old building packed with bars on the left hand side of this bar.

The alley was in the middle of the renovation. I hope it will be back again.

During the walk, I noticed some of the alleys had been closed off because because old buildings next to them had been demolished or were in the middle of  renovation. Are the owners getting ready for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games? Are those alleys gone forever, or coming back after the constructions are finished? I don't know. All I can do is just capture the moment.
