Photowalking in Mashiko, an earthenware town in Tochigi

I visited Mashiko City in Tochigi during Hijisai Festival 2015. Mashiko  is known for Mashiko yaki, which is a kind of traditional earthenware.

It was a little early to enjoy autumn, and the climate was perfect for taking a walk. The rice field surrounding the city was entering its harvest season. Late summer flowers were blossoming.

I walked capturing the details of the town, which reminds me of the time when I was a small kid. Strolling in the typical old town is very enjoyable.

Ishinomaki, Miyagi is one of the cities that experienced the big earthquake and tsunami in 2011. ISHINOMAKI 2.0 wants to upgrade it to a whole new place, not just get back the state before the disaster.

ISHINOMAKI 2.0 has led various projects that aim to revitalize the town. One of them is Ishinomaki Stand Up Week. Ishinomaki has a annual festival on July 31 and August 1 called Kawabiraki Matsuri, which is for showing gratitude to their ancestor who establish the Ishinomaki Harbor. Prior to the festival for about a week, various events are held as part of Stand Up Week.

There were two purposes that I visited Ishinomaki. One of them  was to join the photowalk that ISHINOMAKI 2.0 organized as an event that publicize Stand Up Week. The other was to see the workshop where the participants make ornaments for tanabata, the Star Festival. One of the main streets in Ishinomaki was always decorated with tanabata ornaments until the earthquake.

Five years have passed since then, and this year, ISHINOAMKI 2.0 is planning to decorate the street again by involving as many people as possible. These are the photos that I captured during the workshop.
