Bridges under the moonlight

Nikon D800, AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED

I took the photos here two to six years ago. I like going out to capture bridges on a moonlit cloudless night. I took a look at old photos and selected some for the slide show at the Tokyo Photography Club's group photo exhibition.

A Moonlit Night

Nikon D850, AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED
f/8, 30 sec., ISO 100

I'll write a bit about the photo I exhibited at the Tokyo Night Photography Club's group photo exhibition.

I hadn't taken a photo seriously  in the nighttime Tokyo for more than a year. So I wanted to try the Ryogoku Junction of Metropolitan Expressway if I would take a photo for the exhibition.

I have exhibited photos I took there three times. The first time was at my first group exhibition about five years ago. The second was at my first solo exhibition, and the third at my second solo exhibition. This is my favorite expressway junction in Tokyo anyway.

This time, I just wanted to make a simple picture that I would feel like viewing for a long time. I chose January 2 this year to do my job. It was when the super full moon was shining in the zenith.

This is the story of the "Moonlit Night" that I captured only for myself.

Now that I've taken time to write this blog post, I'll show you another photo. This is the Route 6 Komatsugawa Line branching off from the Ryogoku Junction. The construction of the promenade on the both sides of the canal had finished, and it was brighter that before.

The light up of the cherry blossoms along the Meguro River has started

Nikon D850, AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR

http://americabashigallery.com/

It was the fourth day of our Tokyo Night Photography Club's group exhibition. It also was the first day when the cherry blossoms along the Meguro River near Nakameguro station were lit up. So some of the photographers and I walked from Ebisu, where the gallery is located, to Nakameguro after the event was over.

At this time of year, this area is the most crowded with people, but if you come to our event, I recommend you take a walk to the river (It's about 15-minute walk), or you can visit the gallery after you enjoy viewing cherry blossoms. We are open until 8 P.M. on Sunday.

東京夜間写真部グループ展のMyテーマは「月夜」 / I selected six moonlit night photos for the group exhibition

I took the photo above almost six years ago. It's the Ariake Junction of Metropolitan Expressway in Tokyo. There is a reason I posted such an old photo.

I selected a moonlit night photo that I took last January for the Tokyo Night Photo Club's group exhibition starting on March 21. I also selected five more moonlit night shots from my archive for the slide show.

I want people to see those photos on site, so I posted a different photo here.

I often went out shooting expressways and bridges on a moonlit night. I did it for the first time in a long time last January, and I remembered the feelings I'd had when I started taking night photos in Tokyo.

Please stop by the event if you live around Tokyo!

東京夜間写真部グループ展2018「NIGHT VIEW EMOTION」開催 / The Tokyo Night Photography Club holds a group photo event

AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED, Nikon D850

The Tokyo Night Photography Club will hold a group photo event starting this Wednesday, March 21. Its title is NIGHT VIEW EMOTION. The name was suggested by one of 33 photographers who are joining the event. What kind of event will it be? I can't wait to see it, though I, as one of the organizers, have already seen all the photos.

The photo above is the view from Tokyo City View, the observatory floor of the Mori Tower at Roppongi Hills. I took it on December 30 last year. It was right after the event related with the Metropolitan Expressway, and I really wanted to restart taking photos of the expressway at the time.

My original intention was to try NiSi's brand-new Medium GND filter but I realized I was trying so hard to capture one of the expressway routes running just at the foot of the tower.

In the photo, you can see Tokyo Midtown, the National Art Center and the Aoyama Cemetery. The high-rises in Shinjuku are also visible. But the title of this photo definitely is "Route Three," which is the name of the route itself.

It was right after the sunset when the buildings look most three-dimensional. I thought I would print this one for the group event for a short time.

But I didn't. "A photographer has to stand on the ground to take photos" is my motto :p

This was the only time I used the medium GND filter ...

The Total Lunar Eclipse Night in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo

I went to Shimokitazawa, which is one of my favorite towns in Tokyo. Since workplace moved to Ichigaya, Shinjuku a couple of years ago, the frequency I visit the town has been reduced ...

It was the first visit in six months. The shops and restaurants had come and gone very quickly. The development in the station area had progressed. The faces of the town changes every time I go there. And that is why I love the town.

We chose Jaunuary 31 to gather a while back. We didn't know until a couple of days before that the day would fall on the moon eclipse night.

Should we enjoy the event or fill our stomach? The latter won.

By the way, I've been digging through old Shimokitazawa photos on my Instagram account. In the photos, there still exists the buildings and objects that have long lost. Please stop by my account and enjoy a small time trip.
