The view of the Kandabashi Junction of Metropolitan Expressway from the Ryukan-Sakura Bridge
I was invited to a drinking party in Kanda. Before going to the venue, I walked around the area (I always go and see the expressway along the Nihonbashi River). When I reached the river, I found a new bridge, which opened just a month ago. It's really nice to encounter a new view of the expressway, which had been impossible to see before.

A Moonlit Night

I'll write a bit about the photo I exhibited at the Tokyo Night Photography Club's group photo exhibition.
I hadn't taken a photo seriously in the nighttime Tokyo for more than a year. So I wanted to try the Ryogoku Junction of Metropolitan Expressway if I would take a photo for the exhibition.
I have exhibited photos I took there three times. The first time was at my first group exhibition about five years ago. The second was at my first solo exhibition, and the third at my second solo exhibition. This is my favorite expressway junction in Tokyo anyway.
This time, I just wanted to make a simple picture that I would feel like viewing for a long time. I chose January 2 this year to do my job. It was when the super full moon was shining in the zenith.
This is the story of the "Moonlit Night" that I captured only for myself.
Now that I've taken time to write this blog post, I'll show you another photo. This is the Route 6 Komatsugawa Line branching off from the Ryogoku Junction. The construction of the promenade on the both sides of the canal had finished, and it was brighter that before.

A Changing View
One of the most part of Metropolitan Expressway routes were is being replaced. I took photos right at this spot a couple of years ago, but the view has changed so much.

The Edges
After the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, many parts of Metropolitan Expressway were reinforced. The Route 3 Shibuya Line is one of them. Now the bottom of the expressway is totally covered with the reinforcement.
When I walked along the route the other day, I saw a pedestrian bridge near Ikejiri-Ohashi station. I just wanted to see how things would look from the bridge, so I decided to cross it. Then I noticed that the bridge was so close to the bottom of the expressway and the reinforcement was interrupted. I was able to see the original bottom.
This is the photo I captured looking sideways. Because of the end of the reinforced bottom, the expressway looked like something different, didn't it?

It is interesting to see the bottom of bridges during the day
I had taken photos of this place at night many times, but being at the same spot during the day was interesting. The daylight revealed things I hadn't noticed in the dark.

I remember Route 4 of Metropolitan Expressway ended here when I was a little child. There was only one skyscraper in Shinjuku at the time. It was Keio Plaza Hotel.

SIGMA dp0 Quattroで谷町ジャンクションを撮る / Capturing Shuto Expressway with the SIGMA dp0 Quattro
We usually take a walk in the evening before we eat, but we ate first that night. We were all full. There was no hungry spirit in us, but I always had to take time in shooting photos when I use the dp0 because it had to be mounted on a tripod (You have to forget about any ISO settings other than 100.)
We walked from a restaurant in Roppingi, heading for Roppingi 1-chome where Shuto Expressway's Tanimachi Junction is located. There, I wanted to try the SIGMA dp0 Quattro that has the widest lens among the dp series.

An Hour Before Sunrise |

15 Minutes before Sunrise |

I heard that the moon and some brightest stars would get close in the morning sky. So, I decided to wake up early last Saturday. The destination was Goshikisakura Bridge over the Arakawa River in Adachi Ward, Tokyo.
I started taking photos an hour before sunrise. When the sky was totally dark, I was able to see the moon, Venus, Jupiter, Mars and Regulus, thanks to the rather clear sky. Soon the sky started to turn brighter and brighter. The stars in sky was engulfed by the daylight one by one.
If I don't think much of the stars, the third photo that I took 15 minutes before sunrise is my favorite. I like the mixture of the night sky and the morning brightness in that shot. By the way, I couldn't see Mercury this morning (I haven't seen the planet in my life yet.)
