失敗 / A Mistake

I thought I had made a mistake. I walked from Shinjuku to Sendagaya along the southern edge of Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. All I saw was a long fence that located at the boundary of the garden and street. So I decided to take photos of the fence.

失敗したなぁと思ったのは、新宿から千駄ヶ谷に向かうときに、新宿御苑の南の端に沿って歩いたことだった。延々とフェンスしか見えなかった。でも、せっかくだから延々とフェンスを撮ってみた。

I kept seeing these fences until I reached the other end of the garden. And what did I see on the other side of the street? Residential buildings and railway tracks. Hmm. It was not an exciting walk.

こんなフェンスが、千駄ヶ谷の駅まで続く。で、反対側には何があるかというと、住宅用建物とたまにそのむこうにJRの線路が見える。ワクワクする散歩ではなかった。

One of a few good things about the route was that some houses were enjoying some spring leaves and flowers.

唯一楽しめたのは、所々の家が育てていた植物。春の花がきれいに咲いていた。

It was a day when the animals didn't look so happy.

動物たちも心なしかつまらなそうに見える。そんな一日だった。

春の色、暖かい光（パート２） / Spring Colors, Warm Light - Part 2 -

前回に続き、今回はパート２として、新宿御苑で見た春の続きをお届けしたい（パート１はこちら）。

上の写真はハナニラ。降り注ぐ陽光の中で輝くこの花を、下から見上げて撮るのが僕の定番。ただし、地面に寝っ転がると泥だらけ葉っぱだらけから注意が必要なのと、道端の場合は怪しさ満点だから、これをやるのはおすすめしない。

ところで、上の写真は手前に無数のハナニラが写っていて、ボケた茎が少しうるさい感じになっている。でも、たいていの場合、このレンズはしっとりした前ボケ、後ろボケを作りだしてくれる。色味も比較的あっさりとナチュラルで、僕の春の散歩気分にぴったりだ。

Following the last blog entry, I will share more spring scenes I saw in Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden in Shinjku, Tokyo (Part 1 is here).

The image above shows one of the flowers I like to see in spring. I'm not sure but I've heard that they are called spring star flowers in English. Is it correct? Anyway, I always take photos of these flowers in this kind of low angle. You have to be careful to do this because you'll get dirt and fallen leaves all over your body. Also, these flowers bloom on roadsides but I don't recommend you do this on such places.

The image above looked a little bit noisy by the blur of the stems on the foreground, but overall, I like the soft and silky bokeh this lens creates. I like the natural colors it depicts in the nature, too. It's perfect for my spring photo walks.

Light and Shadow.

ソメイヨシノの幹も美しい。
The trunk of a cherry tree was beautifully lit.

踊る。
Dancing in the light.

ピンクが強い種類の桜は青空に映える。
Their vivid pink was looking great under the blue sky.

いろいろな命が春を喜んでるね、きっと。
I'm sure a lot of lives are enjoying the new season.

影の迷路。子どもじゃないので辿らなかったけれども。
A maze of shadow. I didn't try it though.

この後、地面に落ちた葉や種が、体中にまとわりついた。
After I took several photos, fallen leaves were all over my body.

カエデの葉の子どもたち。
Maple leaf children.

一足早く散った。
It fell a bit too early.

画面左奥にカップルがいた。僕は横たわってカメラを彼らの方に向けてカメラを構えた。僕はこの花を撮っている。君たちは撮っていない。というのは、僕の心の声。
There was a young couple over there. I pointed my camera at their direction. What I was trying to capture was those flowers, not you, I said to myself.

どんなポーズをしたら、きれいに幹に隠れることができるのだろう。いろいろ試し、結局、左肩が影からはみ出した。
How can I hide my shadow well? I tried a lot of poses, but my left shoulder stuck out.

君も笑顔だね！
You are smiling too!

ぽつんと、輝く。
Alone, shining.

戯れる女の子たちをフレームインさせようと移動したけれど、撮りたかったのはセンターの木の幹。すごいね、あれ、ソメイヨシノだってさ。
I moved to the left to include those two girls in the frame. What I originally wanted to capture was the tree in the center. That's the trunk of an old cherry tree. Amazing.

背の高い桜は見上げざるを得ない。
There's no way other than looking up this way to see a tall cherry tree,.

太陽に向かって伸びる、伸びる。
They were reaching for the sky, trying to absorb the sunshine!

春の日差し。
The sun's warm ray. 

これは青味が強い種類のハナニラ。日が傾いてきた。
This star flowers were bluish. The sun was getting lower at this time.

ちょっと視点を変えて、もう１枚。
The same star flowers from a different perspective.

そろそろ閉園の時間だけれど……。新宿御苑は閉まるのが早い。
The park will close soon! The closing time is so early.

この桜、よく見て！　みんな、タコさんウインナー帽を被っている。
Look at this cherry blossoms. They all are wearing octopus-shaped hats!

最初に見た葉っぱの色が、濃い黄色を帯びてきた。ここで散歩終了。

気温はやや低かったものの、春の日差しに恵まれた土曜日。花見にはまだ少し早かったけれど、新宿御苑で春を楽しんできた。

花見には早いとはいえ、普段よりも来園者の数は多かった。だから、中央の芝生広場など、人が集まる場所は避けて、外周の通路をぐるっと一周するという、ややニッチなコースを選択した。

それでも十分に春の色と木漏れ日を満喫できた。かなりたくさんの写真を撮ってきたので、今回はパート１、２に分けてお届けしたい。

The temperature was not high enough for spring, but it was sunny all day in Tokyo last Saturday. It was too early for a cherry blossom viewing photo walk. but I went to Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden in Shinjuku, Tokyo anyway, and enjoyed feeling the spring atmosphere.

I thought it was too early for a cherry blossom viewing party, there were far more people in the garden than on usual weekends. So I didn't bother to walk in to the crowded part of the park and chose quiet paths on the edges of the park, which I thought was a better choice.

Spring colors and the sunlight through the trees and leaves were so refreshing. I took so many photos in the park, so I divided them in two blog entries. Here is the part one.

近所のユキヤナギはとっくに峠を越していたけれど、ここのはこれから満開。
These flowers in my neighborhood were already over, but in the park, they were reaching their peak.

暖かい光に輝く白。
Glowing white in the sunlight.

透き通る淡桃色
Translucent pale pink.

モクレンはこの中心部分が好き。
I like the center part of this flower.

まぶしい光。
Glittering sunlight.

食べてもいいですか。
Can I eat it?

葉に当たる光がリズミカルに見えた。
I liked the way the sunlight illuminate the leaves.

アイ・ラブ・ユーのハンドサインて、あんなだった気がする。
The hand sign of "I love you" must look like that.

ほんと、若い緑はよく輝く。
Young green looks great in the light.

キラキラの光が気持ちいい。
I really enjoyed the sunlight in the park.

影を受け止める。
The leaf caught the shadow.

若い芽がいたるところで顔を出していた。
Young sprouts showed their faces everywhere.

エレガントなグリーン・ライト。
Elegant green light.

落ちた山茶花の花びらが鮮やか。
The camellia pink was so vivid. 

幸せそうな緑。
The green that looked so happy.

この日のお気に入りの一枚。色もパターンも好き。
One of my favorite from that day. I love the colors and pattern.

光の当たるところに苔は育つ。でも、あそこにずっと光があるわけではない、とも思う。
Moss grows where the sunshine reaches. But i know the light is not always there.
