ノーファインダーで適当に撮る / Taking photos without looking through the view finder

ストリートフォトで腰の位置からノーファインダーで撮るというのはよく使われる手法。僕がいつもやっている適当なスナップを、さらに適当にしたらどうなるか。

結論として、さらに適当にしかならなかった（笑）。

Shooting from the hip is one of the popular method for street photography. What would happen when I went with it for my random shots? I tried it in the streets in Shimokitazawa at night.

The results are more random than ever.

今回のお気に入りは下の写真。窓に映った「鈴なり横丁」の灯り。

One of my favorite photos from that evening is below. The reflected lights from Suzunari Yokocho, which is one of the oldest alley with small bars and theaters in Shimokitazawa.

Drink & Clickで仲間と歩く下北沢 / Walking in Shimokitazawa with my pals at a Drink and Click Tokyo event

「仲間と歩く」と書きながら、仲間は写っていない。一人で歩くことが多い下北を、仲間が選んだ道をついていく。そんなに大きな街ではないから、ついて行ったところで、歩く道はいつもと同じ。でも、進む順番が違ったり目をつける場所が違ったり。当たらな発見をしながら歩けるのが楽しい。

I wrote I had walked with my friends, but they are not in the photo. The point is that I walked with them. I often walk in Shimokitazawa alone, so when I followed them that night, it was fun to see what route they took and what things they got interested.

この日はDrink & Clickのイベントだった。テーマは「ライトペインティング」。ほとんど撮らなかったけれど、友人は「鈴なり横丁」の前で「下北」の文字をがんばって書いていた。永遠に終わらないかと少し心配したけれど、完成したようでよかった。

I walked in Shimokitazawa in a Drink & Click event that night. The theme of the event was "light painting." I didn't take such photos at all, but friends tried really hard in front of the Suzunari Yokocho, where there are small bars and a theater. I was afraid the trial would never end, but it looked like they succeeded in painting the character of the town. I hope someone will show that photo on an SNS.

マクロで見る花の造形 / Enjoying the details of flowers through a macro lens

公園であれ山の中であれ、自然の中に行くならマクロレンズを持っていくようにしている。花や植物は景色の一部として眺めるよりも、ディテールを観察するのが楽しいからだ。あしかがフラワーパークにも、さまざまな花が咲いていた。

いったいぜんたい、どうしてお前はそんな形をしているのか。

そこには必然の意味があるはずだけれども、僕は植物学者でもなんでもないから、単に答えを想像して楽しむだけ。それにしても、自然が作った形は面白い。

I always carry a macro lens when I go to a park or to the nature near the mountains. I like to observe the details of plants rather than to see them as part of a landscape view. There were lots of plants and flowers in the Ashikaga Flower Park.

What on earth are they in such shapes?

There must be the reasons. Always are, but I'm not a botanist, so I just enjoy imagining the reasons. The shapes created by the nature are full of wonders.

満開のツツジ / Azaleas in full bloom

あしかがフラワーパークに向かったときに思い出したのが、館林にあるつつじが岡公園だった。2003年に館林を訪れた際に取材先の方に教えていただき、取材の翌週くらいに、樹齢800年などと言われているヤマツツジを見に行っていた。

個人的には藤の花よりツツジの方が好き。人が植えたものだとしても、自立して場合によってはワイルドに育つから。で、今回は諦めていたけのだけれども、あしかがフラワーパークにもツツジはたくさんあった。

鮮やかな赤は、陽光の下でさらにギラギラと輝いていた。

On my way to the Ashikaga Flower Park, I remembered I had visited the Tsutsujigaoka Park in Tatebayashi City in Gunma prefecture. I wrote an article about a school in Tatebayashi in 2003, and one of the teachers there told me about the park. I visited the park one or two weeks after that and enjoyed the azalea flowers in full bloom. The park had very old azalea trees which were 800 hundred or so years old.

I like azaleas more than wisteria. Both were planted by men but the former stood by themselves and sometimes they look wilder. I didn't expect to see azalea flowers in the Ashikaga Flower Park but they had plenty of them. They looked really nice.

Their vivid red was glaring under the harsh sunlight.
