新国立競技場と東京体育館 / The New National Stadium and the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium

１年半前に見たときはまだ更地だった。先日、首都高４号線を走っていて、巨大なスタジアムが立ち上がっているのを見た。この週末に近くを歩く機会があったから、その容姿をゆっくり眺めてきた。

I saw this place two years ago, it was empty. The old stadium had been torn down and nothing was there yet. When I drove on the Metropolitan Expressway's Route 4 the other day, I saw the new huge stadium was being constructed. And this weekend, I took a walk in the area, so I closely looked at the mega construction.

ついでに横の敷地にある東京体育館も撮ってみた。考えてみたら今まで通り過ぎるばかりで、一度もよく見たことがなかった。調べてみたら、東京体育館は1990年に全面改築オープンとある。その前の姿も見ているはずだけれども、記憶にないな。

I spent some time to take photos of the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, which is located just across from the street. I often looked at this building but didn't bother to take time to look at it. It was one of the facilities used for the Tokyo Olympics in 1964 and was reconstructed in 1990. I must have seen the previous building but I don't remember it.
